Hugh Hewitt has a great article in World called Virginia Real. George Allen -vs- James Webb. Two good guys. A senate seat in Virginia is at stake. Virginia in 2006 should be a great place to observe how politics is supposed to work : idea against idea.
Hewitt says,
"This will be a race of issues, not personalities, and both men would be well advised to treat it as such. If ever we had an opportunity for an updated set of Lincoln-Douglas debates, it is in Virginia in 2006."
Mr. Dawn Treader will have a front row seat for this race, and I will bring it to you at the speed of blog.
I'd like to think it will remain positive, but I'm skeptical. Especially if someone starts falling behind in the polls, you can expect the attacks and the typical partisan sniping to begin.

A little partisan sniping is expected. How can you not reference your opponent, after all?
What I am hoping does not happen is full broadsides unleashed on each other -- the kind of politics that has become increasingly familiar in America.

Unfortunately, the reason such politics have become increasingly familiar is because we (collectively) allow them to work. As long as people who engage in negative politics keep winning, they're going to keep engaging in negative politics.
