The Dawn Treader

Number 37 on the all time list.

I continue to dialog with others about the movie.  I had a recent exchange with someone who spoke to a person who was upset that the movie showed Aslan making a deal with the devil.  How is that the gospel, they decried.

*Sigh*.

Number 49 on the all time list ... and climbing.  I saw Narnia again over the holidays.  Enjoyed it even more the second time.

I encourage you to take this short quiz.  At first blink, it appears to be a silly little quiz.  Then I took it.  There are some really thought provoking questions on it.

Be as honest with yourself as possible when answering.  Don't sugar coat your answers.  Be real.  Be honest.

"That was the best movie I have ever seen", said my eight year old.  We saw The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe as a family yesterday.  We were all impressed.  With the exception of mommy, all of us are ready to go back next week and watch it again.

I thought this timeless tale would be just about impossible to adapt into a movie.  I seriously did not think the big screen was big enough to hold Lewis' imagination.  Turns out I was wrong … well, as far as this movie is concerned.  We will have to see if they can pull off The Silver Chair and The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader.  Those books will stretch movie magic to the breaking point, in my opinion.

Dear Disney,

• Please, do not pocahontasize* this wonderful story.
• Please, no Aslan stuffies.
• Please, no sword of Peter or Susan's horn at Toys R Us.
• Please, no Dawn Treader rides at your theme park.
• Please, be true to Lewis' worldview.

I am encouraged by Veith's review, Nicolsi's review and Moring's review.  My hope is that this movie will bring Narnia to non-readers (which sadly describes a huge section of our image saturated society).

To readers who are parents.  Please read this book to your children before seeing the movie.  Please.  If you don't, you will miss out on Lewis' storytelling ... which is a truly priceless treasure to unwrap for your children.

Now, just wait till The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader hits the big screen.  I will need to purchase more bandwidth for this blog. :-)

* i.e. don't deconstruct a story and shoe horn typical Disney-esque motifs into the story.
