Come on. Admit it. We like to see high scoring football games. Defensive games are mind numbing and boring.
What would really help football is to eliminate the offsides rule for wide receivers. Receivers could line up anywhere on the field ... behind the line of scrimmage ... or in the end zone ... or where ever ... they can be always be in motion too.
It would really stretch out the defense and create more excitement in the running game too. And imagine the bone crushing, blind side blocks that wide receivers (who started out back in the defensive secondary) could plant on unsuspecting line backers who never saw them coming. Talk about exciting.
Man, this "we hate the soccer offsides rule" thing really got to you, didn't it? :)
While I would oppose changing this rule in American Football (for one thing, it's simply not necessary to generate offense), I would be open to the idea of allowing motion perpendicular to the line of scrimmage, as they do in Arena Football or the CFL. Make it so that eligible positions can move wherever and however they want, so long as they don't cross the line of scrimmage before the snap.
