Here is the view off the 10th tee at Olde Mill in southwest Virginia. I will be playing there in a tournament this Friday and Saturday. The course is nestled right off the Blue Ridge Parkway in southwest Virginia. I look forward to letting the big dog eat on number 10. The water on both sides of the fairway will not come into play ;-)
You realize that you must now post your score?

Gulp. I did not think about that. But, I will do the honorable thing and post my score. :-)
There are some prizes to be won as well: including shortest drive, most lost balls, most balls into the water. I am hoping to avoid some of those less desirable prizes. ;-)

I shot 89 and 88. As usual, I mixed some brilliant golf with some horrible golf. I won no prizes and my teams finished at the bottom.
We played 4 rounds ... 2 of those rounds were regular golf. One round was modified captain's choice which works like this: everyone tees off; the best tee shot is selected; everyone drops their ball from that spot and finishes the hole with their own ball; the best score is selected. I thought that format was a blast.
The most enjoyable format for me, however, was the final 18. We played alternate shot. I hit the tee shots on the even holes, my partner hit the tee shots on the odd holes. Each hole is played with the partners alternating shots: one hits the tee shot, the other the approach shot, the first player hits the lag putt etc.
The alternate shot format requires concentration on every shot because your partner has to live with the results of your shot. I like the added accountability -- plus, this format allows you to rest between your shots. We played this format for the final 18 because we were all tired.
The course was beautiful. With the exception of two poorly designed holes (#13 and #18), it is a very pleasant course to play.
I did hit it on the water on number #10 tee once. Challenging tee shot.
